How much do we really trust God? 11/10/19

Matthew 6:25-26 (NASB)
25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
Matthew 6:19, 22 (NASB)
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.
Point number 1 in your notes:
God provides life’s necessities for His children.
Isaiah 26:3 New Living Translation (NLT)
3 You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Matthew 6:27-30 (NASB)
27 And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 28 And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!
Point number 2 in your notes:
To worry is to show a distrust of God.
John 14:1 New Living Translation (NLT)
14 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.
Jeremiah 17:5-8 New Living Translation (NLT)
5 “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord.
7 “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord
and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. 8 They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.
Matthew 6:31-33 (NASB)
31 Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Point number 3 in your notes:
When we worry about the small things, we take our eye off the Main thing.
Colossians 3:1 (NLT)
3 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.
Matthew 6:34 (NASB)
34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Point number 4 in your notes:
The trouble of tomorrow is not the problems of today.

Sermon Manuscript: Matthew 6:9-13
Series: Jesus Teaches About
Title: The Disciple’s Prayer
Date: 11/3/19
Location: Clearwater Elementary
Our prayers must recognize God for who He is in our lives.
Matthew 6:9 (NKJV)
9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Matthew 6:10 (NKJV)
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
Point number 1 in your notes:
Our prayers should bring us in line with God’s desires for our lives.
Psalms 118:8 "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man." (NKJV)
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Matthew 6:11 (NKJV)
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Point number 2 in your notes:
Our prayers should continually recognize who provides for us, and who doesn’t.
Matthew 6:12 (NKJV)
12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
Point number 3 in your notes:
Our prayers are our chance to tell God that we acknowledge the steep price He paid for our lives.
1 Corinthians 6:20 (NLT)
for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
Matthew 18:21-35 (NLT)
21 Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?”
22 “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!
23 “Therefore, the Kingdom of Heaven can be compared to a king who decided to bring his accounts up to date with servants who had borrowed money from him. 24 In the process, one of his debtors was brought in who owed him millions of dollars. 25 He couldn’t pay, so his master ordered that he be sold—along with his wife, his children, and everything he owned—to pay the debt.
26 “But the man fell down before his master and begged him, ‘Please, be patient with me, and I will pay it all.’ 27 Then his master was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt.
28 “But when the man left the king, he went to a fellow servant who owed him a few thousand dollars. He grabbed him by the throat and demanded instant payment.
29 “His fellow servant fell down before him and begged for a little more time. ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it,’ he pleaded. 30 But his creditor wouldn’t wait. He had the man arrested and put in prison until the debt could be paid in full.
31 “When some of the other servants saw this, they were very upset. They went to the king and told him everything that had happened. 32 Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me. 33 Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?’ 34 Then the angry king sent the man to prison to be tortured until he had paid his entire debt.
35 “That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.”
Matthew 6:13 (NKJV)
And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Point number 4 in your notes:
Our prayers are our way to tell God how much we need His guidance.
James 1:13-14 (NKJV)
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.

Matthew 6:5-9 (NLT)
5 “When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get. 6 But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
Point number one in your notes this morning:
A trademark of the Christian life is that of a disciple in prayer.
Matthew 6:6-7 (NLT)
6 But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. 7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again.
Point number two in your notes this morning:
Our prayers are our personal conversations and petitions to God the father.
Timothy 2:1 (NLT)
2 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NKJV)
pray without ceasing,
Ephesians 6:18 (NLT)
18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
Colossians 4:2 (NLT)
An Encouragement for Prayer
2 Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
Point number three in your notes this morning:
As a church, we are to be praying for each other, and with each other.

Jesus Teaches About: The Reason 10.20.19
Saturday Oct 26, 2019
Saturday Oct 26, 2019
I want us to open our Bibles together now to the Gospel of Matthew. We are in a series of messages, verse-by verse, through Matthew chapters 5, 6 and 7. These chapters bring to us the famous first sermon of Jesus that we refer to as the Sermon on the Mount. Our series is called: Jesus teaches About, and we are learning many deep points that Jesus is making to His disciples and the other hearers of this original message about how to properly live and maintain our Christian lives.
This morning we’re in Matthew chapter 5 verses 38-48 in a message that I’ve titled “ The Reason ”

Christians Don't Play Fair 10.13.19

Matthew 5:38-48 New Living Translation (NLT)
38 “You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also. 40 If you are sued in court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat, too. 41 If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles. 42 Give to those who ask, and don’t turn away from those who want to borrow.
43 “You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. 44 But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! 45 In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. 46 If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. 47 If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. 48 But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.
Revenge and retribution are not to be part of the Christian’s life.
As Christians, we are not commanded to play fair, but rather to always offer grace.
If Jesus can show love to everyone on earth, so must we.
Christians should be recognized by their unconditional love for others.

Matthew 5:27-30 (NLT)
27 “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 So if your eye—even your good eye—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your hand—even your stronger hand—causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
